Former Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has lost her bid to become New York governor.
The actress was soundly beaten in the Democratic primary race by incumbent Andrew Cuomo after initially making some waves when she announced she was running.
But she never really got going and Mr Cuomo was always ahead in the polls.

This was expected though as the New York governor outspent his rival by more than eight to one.
Nixon was hoping to become the latest insurgent liberal to defeat an establishment Democrat but it was not meant to be.
The campaign between the two had become nasty at certain points, with Mr Cuomo often not mentioning Ms Nixon by name.

Mr Cuomo made this point again at his Westchester County polling place prior to the vote.
He said: ‘It’s New York’s obligation to stand up and lead and lead against a lot of these changes in Washington that are totally opposite of who we are as New Yorkers and what we believe.’
After winning the election Mr Cuomo tweeted: ‘Thank You New York.’
He decided to celebrate with his family at the governor’s mansion in Albany instead of his official victory party in Manhattan.
