The latest hypercar to roll its way out of McLaren’s stable is called the McLaren Speedtail – and it’s a monster.
Alas, the company is only making 106 of them and they’ve already all been sold.
It’s not like we could stretch to one anyway. They each cost $2.4 million (£1.8 million).
The car has a newly-developed hybrid powertrain that delivers 1,035 horsepower which, if you’re not automotively-inclined, means it’ll hit 250mph with three passengers on board.
It’ll go from 0-186mph in just 12.8 seconds.
In order to hit that speed, the car has to be put into ‘velocity’ mode that adjusts the aerodynamics by pulling door-mounted cameras (instead of wing mirrors) out of the windstream and lowering the car by 1.4-inches.
What helps is the fact the car only weighs 1,430kg.
All told, this is the fastest car McLaren has ever built.
‘McLaren has never built a vehicle like the Speedtail before,’ said Mike Flewitt, the company’s CEO.
‘As our first ‘Hyper-GT’, the Speedtail is the ultimate McLaren road car; a fusion of art and science that combines an astonishing maximum speed with an iconic central-driving position and a truly pioneering approach to bespoke personalisation.
‘A ground-breaking hybrid powertrain sits within a lightweight carbon fibre body reminiscent of sleek ‘streamliners’ that once set world speed records, while the luxurious three-seat cockpit offers a sublime combination of an incredible driving experience, unmatched individualism and innovative materials never seen before in a road-going vehicle.’
